DESCRIPTION:The 21st Annual Paul Zia Distinguished Lecture\, “Design & Construction of the Rainer Square Redevelopment Project\,” will be presented this year\, on September 19\, 2022. The lecture is made possible by our many sponsors\, which will be updated soon for the 2022 lecture. \nWatch this video to see a quick snap shot of what this lecture will entail. \nThis annual lecture honors Professor Emeritus Dr. Paul Zia\, former professor and department head of NC State’s Department of Civil\, Construction\, and Environmental Engineering\, and a structural engineer who is eminent in research\, professional society leadership and practice. \nThis year’s presenters will be Ron Klemencic\, PE\, SE\, Hon AIA\, from Magnusson Klemencic Associates and Dr. Amit Varma\, a Karl H. Kettelhut Professor of CE and the Director of the Bowen Lab of Large-Scale CE Research at Purdue University. \nThis free hybrid event will take place on Monday\, September 19\, 2022 at 3PM at the Talley Student Union’s Stewart Theatre on the main campus of NC State University. An interactive live-streaming venue will also be available. Specific details\, including parking information will be made available in August. DESCRIPTION:18th annual Paul Zia Distinguished Lecture will held from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Stewart Theater in Talley Student Union\, NCSU Main Campus. We are proud to feature presenters Dr. Yang Jiang\, PE\, SE Principal Engineer of HNTB; and Dr. Mike Wongkaew\, PE\, SE\, Associate Vice President and National Tunnel Practice Lead of HNTB; with a special welcome by Linea Laird\, PE of WSP USA. \nThe presenters will discuss various topics related to the design and construction the 2-mile double-decker tunnel under downtown Seattle\, including the design and construction of the 57.5-ft diameter tunnel and owner considerations for the $3.3 billion project. \nThe lecture is free and open to the public. 2 PDHs will be available. Cuomo Bridge: Replacement of the Tappan Zee Bridge” will be presented on Monday\, October 15\, 2018\, at 3 p.m. at the Stewart Theatre located in the Talley Student Union on the North Carolina State University campus. This annual lecture* honors Professor Emeritus Dr. Paul Zia\, former professor and department head for NC State’s Department of Civil\, Construction\, and Environmental Engineering\, and a structural engineer who is eminent in research\, professional society leadership and practice. \nPresenters include Mr. Gang Jiao\, P.E.\, Director I – Design Engineering of Fluor; Mr. Ken Wright P.E.\, NE area principal bridge engineer of HDR; and Mr. Brian Keaney\, P.E.\, geotechnical section manager of HDR. The presenters will discuss various topics related to the design and construction of the 3.1-mile twin span cable-stayed bridge including: \n\nStructural design of the iconic cable-stayed main span\nDesign of the pile foundations\nConstruction of the $3.98 billion bridge\n\nSponsorship opportunities and PDH credits are available.
